Spring Preview
A Fresh Season at Sugartime
As the snow melts and the mountain begins to bloom, spring brings a beautiful new energy to Sugar Mountain. Crisp mornings, sunny afternoons, and bright blue skies make this one of the most refreshing times to visit.

Trails reopen, waterfalls flow at their fullest, golf courses turn green, and mountain towns come alive with farmers markets and seasonal events. It’s the perfect season for hiking, biking, fishing, scenic drives, and quiet mornings on the deck with a cup of coffee.

Spring in the High Country feels peaceful, vibrant, and just a little magical.
Old Hampton Store and Barbecue
As the name states it's an old general store dating back to 1882. Today it serves up great barbecue, southern sides and Michael's favorite - fried bologna sandwiches. There is a tavern on-site crafting farm-to-table cocktails and plenty of local beers on tap. The general store boasts local merchants today from pottery to jams and honey.

Located along the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, The Orchard at Altapass is a historic heirloom apple orchard celebrating Appalachian culture and mountain heritage. In season (late spring through fall), you’ll find apple picking, tractor rides, walking trails, and free live mountain music on weekends.
Stop by the Red Barn Store for fresh cider, apple pie, local jams, and handmade treats — it’s a perfect afternoon stop with incredible views.
A beautiful mix of history, music, and mountain charm.

Tweetsie Railroad (opening day April 4th)
A classic North Carolina attraction and family-friendly Wild West theme park just outside Boone and Blowing Rock. Ride a historic steam locomotive through scenic mountain terrain, enjoy amusement rides, live shows, gold panning, a petting zoo and fun activities for all ages.
